Show Notes
Dennis is joined via Zoom by actor Bill Brochtrup, who is currently appearing the Los Angeles production of the Tony-winning play The Inheritance, which is described on the Geffen Playhouse’s website this way: “Eric and Toby are 30-somethings who seem to be very much in love and thriving. But on the cusp of their engagement, they meet an older man haunted by the past, and a younger man hungry for a future. Chance meetings lead to surprising choices as the lives of three generations interlink and collide—with explosive results.” Bill talks about how he came to be in the project, the challenge of playing two different roles, how he learned and rehearsed a very dialogue heavy scene he has in Part 1 and what it’s like to work with co-star Tuc Watkins who he known since his early days in Hollywood. Bill also recalls his decision to come out publicly in 1995 when he was appearing on NYPD Blue as administrative aide John Irvin and how the landscape for gay actors and portrayals has changed since that time. Other topics include: hearing audience members cry during the show, his favorite souvenir from NYPD Blue and the stranger he met while hiking in the Alps who predicted something extraordinary would happen to him soon…and it did, the very next day.
